PSAT offered at Landrum High School
Landrum High School is offering the PSAT (practice SAT test) to all freshman, sophomores, and juniors on Wednesday, October 15th at Landrum High School.
How
much does it cost:
The state of SC is paying for all 10th graders to take the test, so
there is no fee. All 9th and 11th graders who take the test need to register
with the Guidance office. The fee is $15 and can be paid by check or cash.
11th Grade students who receive free and reduced lunch can receive a fee waiver. They need
to check with their counselor.
The PSAT assesses reading,
math and writing skills. The PSAT and SAT have the
same format and evaluate the same skills. Once a student takes the PSAT/NMSQT, they will receive a custom SAT study plan based on your results.Taking the PSAT/NMSQT in
10th grade or lower is beneficial because students receive early feedback
on their skills. Students can look at their percentile to see how well they scored and
compare it to other 10th graders who have taken the test.
Students can take the
PSAT/NMSQT again in 11th grade, which will give them another skills
assessment and a measure of your overall progress, as well as a chance to
compete for scholarships!
Research shows that
students who take the PSAT/NMSQT in both 10th and 11th
grade score 189 points higher than those who do not!
What is the NMSQT National Merit Scholarship Program?
The National Merit
Scholarship Program is a scholarship recognition program. Only juniors are
eligible. Each year, the score requirements change. Upon testing, students will
be notified if they are a semi-finalist.
When is it offered and where: October 15,
2014 at Landrum High School during the school day. Students will be assigned to a
testing room.
Landrum Students Visit Converse College
Thirty-nine female students visited Converse College for a fun-filled day full of enriching activities and experiences. Converse, a women's college located in Spartanburg, SC, is a private four-year institution offering a plethora of majors including: education, art, interior design, business, music, and much, much more.
After Landrum students went on a campus tour, they made their way to the art and theater buildings, where they were able to experience what a real college class feels like. Taught by Converse professors, these classes were planned specifically for our Landrum students. After attending the classes, they ate lunch in the cafeteria. They completed their day with a student panel, giving them the opportunity to ask Converse students questions.
We thank Converse College for providing the transportation for our visit to their lovely campus.
