PSAT

The PSAT test is being offered at Landrum High School on October 12th. Students can still sign up to take the test. The fee is $14. Any 9th through 11th grade student planning to attend a four year college or university should sign up for this test.For more information about the psat, click here.

While you are are going through the college application process, it can be tedious trying to google each college's site to find their application. Sccango.com is a web site that allows you to get all SC applications on one site without the hassle of having to search everytime you want to apply. The web site is packed with helpful information including a checklist, financial aid information and scholarship information, and much, much more. Check it out! Navy Nuclear Engineering



Jonathan Gaither, a nuclear engineer from the United States Navy, spoke to chemistry classes about careers in nuclear engineering in the Navy. There are a plethora of career opportunities in the Navy. Students interested in pursuing a career in engineering may be interested in applying for a Navy ROTC scholarship. Navy ROTC


Representatives from the United States Navy spoke with students about the NAVY ROTC program. Navy ROTC scholarships pay for full tuition, text books, lab/incidental fees, uniforms, and include a living allowance of $250 per month (with an increase of $50 each academic year) and a summer training stipend. The four year scholarship is worth up to $180,000. To be eligible, you must be US citizen, at least 17 years of age by September 1st of your first college year and younger than 23 years of age on June 30th of that same year. You must be a high school graduate and be physically qualified. The minimum SAT Test Score requirements are 530 for Verbal and 520 for Math. The minimum ACT scores are a 22 English and 21 Math. Converse College




An Admissions Rep from Converse College spoke with more than twenty students today about admissions requirements, majors, and financial aid. Some new things at Converse include a new musical theatre major and a five year Master's Degree in Nursing major. The Master's in Nursing program is in a partnership with Vanderbuilt University. Upon graduating, students will earn a Master's degree from Vanderbuilt University. Converse has added a scholarship for students with a 2.75 and 900 SAT or 19 ACT worth $9,000. Senior Meeting

There will be a senior meeting immediately after Open House on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 7 p.m. All seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend this meeting. The meeting will focus on important information such as financial aid and college admissions information.

United States Army




Sgt.'s Cook and Pillot from the United States Army spoke to Mrs. McNeill's world geography classes about their experiences in other countries and working with people from other cultural backgrounds. The presentation included a slide show filled with pictures from countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan. Students were given the opportunity to ask questions and learned what life is like in countries outside of the United States. For more information about the Army, click here.
