Milliken visits Landrum



More than nineteen employees from Milliken & Company, visited Landrum High School to speak to students about their careers at Milliken. Students learned more about Milliken & Company and a variety of career fields including engineering, international business, invention, and management. We thank Milliken personnel for their valuable time and information.


Careers in the Banking Industry


Ms. Jennifer Wilke from Wachovia Bank of Landrum, spoke to forty students about careers in the banking industry. She stressed the importance of taking rigorous math classes in high school as this is good preparation for a major in business in college. Ms. Wilke also discussed the importance of saving, having good credit and discussed how to open a checking and savings account.

USC Upstate College of Business & Economics


If you're interested in majoring in business, then you should check out USC Upstate's major in business administration. The George Dean Johnson, Jr., USC Upstate's College of Business & Economics, also known as "The George," is located in downtown Spartanburg. This location allows students to have access to businesses in the Spartanburg community. It is the only business program between Charlotte and Clemson to have earned accreditation from the AACSB International - the Association to Advance Collegiate School of Business. Only one third of U.S. business programs have completed the process for this accreditation. The College of Business & Economics offers a degree in Business Administration. Students can concentrate in economics and finance, accounting, general business, management and marketing. There are a variety of scholarships available for business majors. Major in Jazz Studies and Commercial Music at USC Upstate

USC Upstate is now offering a major in commerical music. It's the only one of its kind in the entire state of South Carolina. If you are musically inclined and have an interest in working in the music business, song writing, audio recording and/or would like a career in music, then this may be the major for you! The USC jazz studies and commercial music program offers classes in commercial music, jazz studies, music theory, music history, choir, guitar, piano and much more. Job Shadow Day, February 2nd

Job Shadow Day is just around the corner. Students can pick up a permission slip in the Guidance office. The form must be completed before Wednesday, January 26th. Job Shadow Day is a national program that gives students the opportunity to "shadow" a person in a career of his/her interest. Students are encouraged to participate. In order for students to be counted as present, a one page typed essay about the shadowing experience is required.

Financial Aid

There will be a Financial Aid Night on January 13th at 6 p.m. for all seniors and their parents. All seniors who are planning to attend a tech school, community college or four year university or college, should complete their FAFSA form. To complete a FAFSA online, visit www.fafsa.ed.gov. A FAFSA form cannot be completed until the end of January, however, you should go ahead and acquire a student and parent pin number.
