Respiratory Care at Spartanburg Community College

Mr. Joel Livesay from Spartanburg Community College spoke to students today about careers in respiratory care.

Respiratory Care therapists evaluate, treat and care for patients with breathing problems or disorders. They assess a patient's need for respiratory care and administer therapy, while evaluating responses and modifying care. They work under the supervision of a physician. This career is in demand. Spartanburg Community College's program is a two-year Associate of Science degree program. The average salary is in the mid 50's. Students should have an interest in health sciences and should be strong science students. For more information, click here.

Careers in the Health Science Cluster

Livesay of Spartanburg Community College, spoke to students today about the Surgical Technology and Respiratory Care Programs. Surgical Technology is a 12 month program preparing students for careers as a surgical technician. Surgical technologists work in a variety of settings including veterinary offices, hospitals, research and product development, and the military. Students interested in this career should take health science courses offered at Swofford Career Center. For more information about this program click here.

Respiratory Care Therapists work in a variety of settings including hopsitals, home care, and pulmanary function labs. Students should take biology and chemistry while in high school. This program is a two year program. For more information, click here.
